Our Story

Carmanah Management Corporation was founded in 1993 by Dr. David Green upon returning from three years working at the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji. The company's development was roughly modelled on Green's previous experience as co-founder and senior executive of the Axys group of companies (Axys Technologies, Axys Environmental Consulting, Seastar Chemicals) from 1976-1988.

Carmanah Management began with an environmental consulting company called Carmanah Research. The consulting company expanded quickly, and funds from consulting were used to fund two startups: Carmanah Technologies, which focussed on solar-powered LED navigation lighting, and NxtPhase Technologies, which focussed on using fibre-optic technology for the measurement of high voltage and high current for transmission lines. These successful companies in turn provided funds for ‘seed’ investments in other local technology companies.

Finally, Carmanah Management has also made a broad number of donations and social investments in the community, focussed around protecting nature and wild spaces (e.g. Takaya: Lone WolfThe Land Conservancy), educating people about nature (FUN Society, Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea), and dealing with homelessness (Woodwynn Farms, Our Place).

Carmanah Management continues to seek ways to honour our mantra of ‘Creating Good Things’.
