Companies Created

Carmanah Management, based in Victoria, BC, Canada, has founded the following companies:

NxtPhase Technologies

Originally a division of Carmanah Management, NxtPhase licensed fibre-optic technology from the University of British Columbia in 1995 and developed, manufactured and sold optical equipment for the measurement of voltage and current in electrical substations. The company raised venture capital in excess of $50M before being purchased by AREVA in 2009.

Carmanah Signs

Carmanah Signs, the LED sign division of Carmanah Technologies, was purchased by Carmanah Management and run as an independent company for five years before being sold to Stratacache in 2017. Carmanah Signs is a leading vendor of signage to state-run lottery corporations internationally.

Carmanah Technologies

Originally a division of Carmanah Management, Carmanah Technologies was spun out in 1997 as a separate company developing and manufacturing solar LED lighting for industrial and commercial purposes. It grew to about 250 staff and was listed on the TSX until 2019, when it was taken private. Most product lines have been sold, but the company continues to manufacture solar-LED traffic warning systems.

Carmanah Research

Carmanah Research, an environmental consulting company, was the first operating company created by Carmanah Management. The company focussed on environmental impact assessment, fisheries studies, and environmental remediation. The company was sold to Levelton Consulting Ltd in 1999.
